AppFlowy
A project & team management app
Details
The project uses an AGPLv3 license for its core community offering, with over variations placed under paid licenses, with the self-hosted paid offerings appearing to be provided under a non-FOSS license.
The project has a chart on their pricing page reflecting the different features available in their different offerings, but from this it’s not clear what’s possible, provided or potentially limited in their FOSS core offerings.
Based upon experiences reported by a Reddit user there are significant limits, such as user count limits, when self-hosting the FOSS variation.
The project advertises itself generally as open source within their GitHub readme title, their GitHub project description, and in their development docs, in which they also state the following as one of their core values:
We are true believers in open source—a fundamentally superior approach to achieve the mission.
The project was founded by prior ByteDance employees, and appears to have raised at least $6.4m from a range of investors which include OSS Capital, HongShan, Bob Young, Steve Chen, Tom Preston-Werner, Justin Hoffman, Preetha Parthasarathy, Amr Awadallah, Clint Smith, David Mytton, Matt Mullenweg, Kevin Xu, Peer Richelsen, Paul Copplestone, Arkadiusz Zarowski and Maneesh Sharma. The project also appears to gain revenue from providing hosted variations of their app, and from accepting donations via Ko-fi.
