is it really FOSS?

Logseq

A knowledge management and collaboration platform

Yes!
This project appears to be free and open source software.

Details

The project is provided under an AGPLv3 license.

At the time of writing, a “Database Version” is mentioned in private testing. The license of this version is not yet clear. After downloading this version following their guidance, only license information the electron and chromium dependencies were found.

Based upon a topic in their forum, Logseq had emailed contributors asking them to sign a CLA for the intent of switching licenses in the future. It’s just after this when they added contributing guidance to the project which included the requirement of a CLA.

The project appears to have raised at least $4.1m in funding from investors which include Patrick Collison, Nat Friedman, Tobias Lütke, Sriram Krishnan, GP at A16Z, Craft Ventures, Matrix Partners China, Day One Ventures, Charlie Cheever and Dave Winer. The project also appears to receive donations via the Open Source Collective.

It appears the project is testing a “Logseq Sync” service, provided to sponsors/backers right now. This does not appear to have been made generally available, but it does indicate a potential extra revenue stream via added non-FOSS functionality/convenience.
