API mocking and testing
Details
The project is provided under a license which defaults to AGPLv3, while providing a subdirectory under an Enterprise Edition (EE) license although there’s no code provided within this folder in the source repository.
Following the main desktop download from the project’s website, the license of the provided version is not made clear along the journey. While running this, it was observed that the application was performing background requests to Sentry, Stripe and BrowserStack without clear indication or consent.
The downloaded desktop app shows various features which, when accessed, advises that it’s a “Premium feature” which requires sign-up, offering a trial. This is not mentioned via the download paths or in the project readme. Going by a GitHub thread it seems like the “premium features” may not be restricted if built from source.
The project seems to strongly make use of a server-side component for parts of the application like account management and other online features, but the sources for this could not be found in our review. Their guidance points to an old minimal archived repository.
The project appears to have accepted some contributions but no evidence of rights handover (via a CLA) could be found.
The project advertises as open source on its website, above the download button as used above, and in its project readme.
The project appears to have raised at least $125k in funding from investors such as YC, Titan Capital, Neon Inc. and Surge Ventures Inc. The project was acquired by BrowserStack in May 2025.
